This engine doesn't just replace the legendary 5.7L HEMI; it retires it by offering superior torque and towing capability.

Expert Insight:

Why an Inline-6?

The Tech: By arranging the cylinders in a straight line instead of a "V," the engine achieves a natural mechanical balance. This eliminates the need for heavy counterweights used to dampen vibrations in other engines.

The Result: You get incredibly smooth acceleration. When you merge onto the highway in Fishers or Carmel, the power delivery feels immediate and linear, without the lag or roughness sometimes found in V6 competitors.

Available Models with the 3.0L Hurricane S.O.

This engine serves as the standard powerhouse for the modern Wagoneer family.

Jeep Wagoneer

Jeep Wagoneer (2023 – Present)

The Hurricane S.O. comes standard on Series II, Carbide, and Series III trims. It pulls a 10,000-lb trailer effortlessly, outclassing many full-size pickup trucks.

Jeep Wagoneer L

Jeep Wagoneer L (2023 – Present)

Even with the extended wheelbase and room for eight passengers, this engine never feels underpowered. The twin turbos ensure you have passing power even when fully loaded for a road trip.

Note: If you are looking at the Grand Wagoneer, that vehicle utilizes the High Output (H.O.) variant. The S.O. is specific to the Wagoneer model.

Why Buy a Hurricane Engine from Us?

Modern turbocharged engines are engineering marvels, but they demand strict maintenance. A private seller in Muncie might have used the wrong oil or skipped intervals, which can damage the turbos.

Buying from Ed Martin Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram mitigates that risk.

CPO Safety Net

When you buy a Certified Pre-Owned Wagoneer from us, we verify the complex systems are working correctly.

  • Turbo Health: We check the twin turbochargers for any signs of bearing wear or oil leaks to ensure they are boosting correctly.
  • Cooling Systems: This engine uses a water-to-air intercooler to keep intake temperatures down. We inspect this circuit to ensure your engine performs well even on hot Indiana summer days.
  • Warranty: Our CPO vehicles come with a 7-Year/100,000-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty.

Maintenance Pro-Tips

To get the longest life out of your Hurricane engine, our Service Center recommends following these three rules:

Maintenance Pro-Tips
  • Strict Oil Specs: You must use 0W-20 Synthetic Oil. Conventional oil breaks down under the high heat of turbochargers and can cause sludge that destroys the bearings.
  • Fuel Matters: While the S.O. can run on regular gas, we highly recommend using 91 octane premium fuel when you are towing heavy loads or driving in high heat to prevent the engine from reducing power to protect itself.
  • The Cool Down: If you have just towed a heavy trailer through Lawrence or Anderson, let the engine idle for 60 seconds before turning it off. This keeps oil flowing through the turbos to cool them down safely.
