2026 Ram 1500 vs F-150: Which Truck Fits Your Work and Family?

Most Ram 1500 vs F-150 decisions for 2026 come down to one trade-off. The F-150 has higher tow and payload ratings at the top of the 4x4 range, so it fits the buyer who needs the very top tow or payload rating. The Ram backs every 2026 truck with the longer powertrain warranty, which suits a buyer who plans to keep a truck for years. If that's your plan, browse our new Ram 1500 inventory.

Each truck wins some of the points that usually settle the choice.

2026 Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 towing and payload compared

Towing and Payload

The F-150 holds its clearest edge over the Ram 1500 in towing and payload, and Ford's top ratings require specific equipment. Ram figures are for the base Tradesman trim unless another trim is named. Both of Ram's 3.0-liter Hurricane engines are inline six-cylinders, called I6 for short.

4x4 Towing

Each Ram 4x4 trailer rating belongs only to the exact truck named, and each F-150 rating is Ford's top rating for that engine.

4x4 truck and setup Engine Trailer rating (lb)
Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab, 6'4" box, 3.92 axle 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo I6 11,370
Ram 1500 Tradesman Crew Cab, 5'7" box, 3.92 axle 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo I6 11,200
Ram 1500 Tradesman Crew Cab, 5'7" box, 3.92 axle 5.7-liter HEMI V8 eTorque 9,590
Ram 1500 Limited or Limited Longhorn Crew Cab, 5'7" box, 3.92 axle 3.0-liter Hurricane High Output I6 9,240
Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab, 6'4" box, 3.55 axle 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque 7,470
F-150 SuperCrew with the Max Tow/Haul Package and optional Max Tow axle 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 13,500
F-150 SuperCrew with the Max Tow/Haul Package and optional Max Tow axle 5.0-liter V8 12,800
F-150 SuperCrew with the Max Tow/Haul Package and optional Max Tow axle 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid 11,600
F-150 4x4 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 8,200

The Max Tow/Haul Package behind Ford's top three ratings isn't offered with the 2.7-liter engine. On the Ram, ask for the 3.0-liter twin-turbo with the 3.92 axle when towing comes first. The High Output version of that engine, which comes on the upper trims, rates lower in the same Crew Cab setup, so more horsepower doesn't mean a higher tow rating. Every Ram trim can add trailer reverse steering control in a package.

4x4 Payload

Each Ram 4x4 payload rating applies only to the truck named, while each F-150 figure is Ford's top 4x4 payload for that engine.

4x4 truck and setup Engine Payload (lb)
Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab, 6'4" box 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo I6 1,910
Ram 1500 Tradesman Crew Cab, 5'7" box 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo I6 1,840
Ram 1500 Tradesman Crew Cab, 5'7" box 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque 1,790
Ram 1500 Tradesman Crew Cab, 5'7" box 5.7-liter HEMI V8 eTorque 1,630
F-150 4x4 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 2,175
F-150 4x4 5.0-liter V8 2,080
F-150 4x4 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid 1,740
F-150 4x4 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 1,715

Ford's 3.5-liter EcoBoost carries the highest 4x4 payload in this comparison. Every Ram truck in this table except the HEMI out-hauls Ford's top ratings for its 2.7-liter and its hybrid.

Two-Wheel-Drive Ram Ratings

The Ram 1500 reaches its highest trailer and payload ratings in two-wheel drive. These Ram figures stand alone, with no F-150 figures beside them.

Ram 1500 Tradesman 4x2 Quad Cab, 6'4" box Trailer rating (lb) Payload (lb)
3.0-liter twin-turbo I6, 3.92 axle 11,610 1,930
3.0-liter twin-turbo I6, 3.21 axle 8,510 1,930
3.6-liter V6 eTorque, 3.55 axle Up to 8,130 2,360

The axle ratio is the biggest single lever on a Ram tow rating. With the 3.92 axle, the 3.0-liter Quad Cab also tows more in two-wheel drive than the same truck does with 4x4. The Ram that carries the most payload is a different truck from the one that tows the most, so tell us which job comes first.

2026 Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 powertrain warranty comparison

Powertrain Warranty

The Ram 1500's clearest advantage over the F-150 is how long its powertrain coverage lasts. Ram attaches three conditions to its powertrain term: "Excludes Fully Electric vehicles. Applies to 2026 model year vehicles. Non-transferable." Because it's non-transferable, the coverage doesn't pass to the next owner if you sell the truck.

The basic, corrosion and roadside coverages run the same length on both trucks, so the powertrain term is the real difference.

Coverage 2026 Ram 1500 2026 Ford F-150
Basic (bumper to bumper) 3 years / 36,000 miles 3 years / 36,000 miles
Corrosion perforation 5 years / unlimited miles 5 years / unlimited miles (sheet metal only; excludes aluminum)
Roadside assistance 5 years / 60,000 miles 5 years / 60,000 miles (a separate complimentary program)

Ask us to walk you through the RAM coverage and its conditions before you sign. For as long as you own the truck, our service center has certified technicians to work on it, and repairs there use Mopar parts. We also offer shuttle service, plus free WiFi if you'd rather wait.

2026 Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 engines and EPA fuel economy compared

Engines and Fuel Economy

The Ram 1500 pairs every engine with an 8-speed automatic and offers two eTorque mild-hybrid engines. The F-150 uses a 10-speed automatic, including on its PowerBoost full hybrid. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 is back for 2026, as an option on every Ram trim except the off-road RHO and the top Tungsten.

Horsepower and Torque

Horsepower, torque and transmission differ by engine on both trucks, and a dash means that figure isn't listed in this comparison.

Engine Horsepower Torque (lb-ft) Transmission
Ram 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque (mild hybrid) 305 269 8-speed automatic
Ram 5.7-liter HEMI V8 eTorque (mild hybrid) 395 410 8-speed automatic
Ram 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo I6 420 469 8-speed automatic
Ram 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo I6 High Output 540 521 8-speed automatic
Ford 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 325 400 10-speed automatic
Ford 5.0-liter V8 400 410 10-speed automatic
Ford 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 400 500 10-speed automatic
Ford 3.5-liter PowerBoost full-hybrid V6 - - 10-speed Modular Hybrid

Matched V8 to V8, the HEMI makes the same torque as Ford's 5.0-liter, and the Ford is a few horsepower ahead. The six-cylinder turbos split: the Ram's 3.0-liter makes more horsepower than Ford's 3.5-liter EcoBoost, and the EcoBoost makes more torque. The High Output six is the most powerful engine in the Ram 1500 lineup, and it's standard on the upper trims: the Limited Longhorn, Limited, RHO and Tungsten.

Fuel grade: Ram recommends 91 octane premium for the standard 3.0-liter and requires it for the High Output. The V6 runs on 87, and Ram recommends 89 for the HEMI, with 87 acceptable.

More on the Ram engines: Read our Pentastar V6 overview, our Hurricane twin-turbo I6 overview or our Hurricane High Output overview.

EPA Fuel Economy

EPA estimates for city, highway and combined mpg depend on both the engine and the drive.

Engine and drive City Highway Combined
Ram 3.6-liter V6 eTorque (mild hybrid), 2WD 20 25 22
Ram 3.0-liter twin-turbo I6, 2WD 18 25 21
Ram 5.7-liter HEMI V8 eTorque (mild hybrid), 2WD 17 22 19
Ford 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 2WD 19 25 21
Ford 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, 2WD 17 25 20
Ford 5.0-liter V8, 2WD 16 24 19
Ram 3.6-liter V6 eTorque (mild hybrid), 4WD 19 24 21
Ram 5.7-liter HEMI V8 eTorque (mild hybrid), 4WD 16 20 18
Ram 3.0-liter High Output I6, 4WD (except the RHO) 15 21 17
Ford 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 4WD 18 23 20
Ford 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, 4WD 17 23 19
Ford 5.0-liter V8, 4WD 16 24 19
Ford 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid, 4WD 22 24 23

If two-wheel drive covers your needs, the Ram's V6 eTorque earns the best two-wheel-drive combined rating in this table. If you need 4WD and want the most mpg, Ford's PowerBoost full hybrid leads on combined mpg, with the Ram's mild-hybrid V6 eTorque next.

2026 Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 driver assistance and cabin technology

Driver Assistance and Technology

Both trucks come with standard driver assistance, and the Ram 1500 gives every trim the same list, from the Tradesman up. Here is that list beside Ford's, along with each truck's screens and audio.

Feature 2026 Ram 1500 2026 Ford F-150
Standard driver assistance Active Lane Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind-spot Monitoring with trailer coverage and Rear Cross Path detection, ParkSense front and rear park assist with automatic reverse stop, ParkView rear backup camera Ford's standard driver-assist suite, Co-Pilot360 2.0
Center touchscreen 8.4-inch, 12-inch or 14.5-inch Uconnect, by trim SYNC 4 with a 12-inch center touchscreen
Audio From 6 speakers up to a 23-speaker ultra-premium system, by trim Bang & Olufsen audio available

The top Tungsten trim makes five more features standard, and the other trims, except the Tradesman, Express and Warlock, offer them as options or in packages:

  • 360-degree surround-view camera
  • Drowsy Driver Detection
  • Evasive Steer Assist
  • Intersection Collision Warning
  • Traffic Sign Recognition

To see what the Ram's screens can do, learn how Uconnect works.

2026 Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 cabs, beds and interior room compared

Cabs, Beds and Interior Room

The F-150 offers more cab and box choices, while the Ram 1500 keeps to two cabs and two box lengths. The table compares those choices, plus seating and front-seat room.

Measure 2026 Ram 1500 2026 Ford F-150
Cab styles Quad Cab, Crew Cab Regular Cab, SuperCab, SuperCrew
Seating Up to 6 in either cab 3 in the Regular Cab; 5 or 6 in the SuperCab and SuperCrew
Shorter box 5'7" box, 53.8 cu ft 5.5-ft box, 52.8 cu ft
Middle-length box 6'4" box, 61.3 cu ft 6.5-ft box, 62.3 cu ft
Longest box - 8-ft box, 77.4 cu ft
Front headroom 40.9 in 40.8 in
Front legroom 40.9 in 43.9 in

Ram writes box lengths in feet and inches, and Ford writes them in feet. The shorter and middle-length boxes hold similar volumes even though their lengths differ.

Front headroom is effectively even, and the F-150 gives front-seat riders more legroom. In back, the Ram Crew Cab gives passengers 44.8 inches of legroom against 35.3 inches in the Quad Cab, so choose the Crew Cab if adults ride in back every day. Because seat count varies with each truck's equipment, check it on the truck you have in mind.

2026 Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 NHTSA safety ratings by cab

Safety Ratings

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rates the Ram 1500 and the F-150 by cab style, and the results split on the crew cabs. Each overall rating applies only to the cab style named.

Cab style 2026 Ram 1500 2026 Ford F-150
Quad Cab (Ram) and SuperCab (Ford) 5 stars overall 5 stars overall
Crew Cab (Ram) and SuperCrew (Ford) 4 stars overall 5 stars overall
Regular Cab (Ford only) - 5 stars overall

For a family shopping crew cabs, the F-150 SuperCrew holds the higher rating. The Ram 1500 RHO has not been tested. Ratings change as new tests are published, so check NHTSA.gov for the latest.

2026 Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 prices and trims

Prices and Trims

What a 2026 Ram 1500 or F-150 costs depends on how it's configured. On the F-150, 4WD and the PowerBoost hybrid cost extra. The Ram comes in 10 trims, from Tradesman to Tungsten, and the F-150 comes in 9, from XL to Raptor R. Ask us for the current price on the exact Ram 1500 you're considering.

When it's time to pay for the truck, we work with buyers in every credit situation, including people new to the country or turned down elsewhere. Three things can help before you visit:

Off-Road Flagships

The Ram 1500 RHO and the F-150 Raptor are the two off-road flagships in this comparison.

Off-road flagship Ram 1500 RHO F-150 Raptor
EPA city / highway / combined 14 / 16 / 15 mpg 14 / 18 / 16 mpg
Trailer rating 8,360 lb (Crew Cab, 5'7" box, 3.92 axle) 8,200 lb (Ford's top rating for the Raptor)

The Raptor earns the better highway and combined EPA ratings. The trailer ratings don't line up exactly: the RHO's covers one configuration, and the Raptor's is Ford's top figure for that model. Treat them as close, not as a win for either truck.

Ram 1500 Trims

Here's what each 2026 Ram 1500 trim adds or changes on the way up the lineup.

Trim What it adds or changes

Frequently Asked Questions

In 4x4 form, the F-150 does. Ford's highest 4x4 trailer rating is 13,500 lb, for a SuperCrew with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost, the Max Tow/Haul Package and the optional Max Tow axle upgrade. The Ram's highest 4x4 rating is 11,370 lb, on a Tradesman Quad Cab with the 6'4" box, the 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo I6 and the 3.92 axle.

Among 4x4 trucks, the F-150 does. Ford's top 4x4 payload rating is 2,175 lb, with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost. The Ram's highest 4x4 payload is 1,910 lb, on a Tradesman Quad Cab with the 6'4" box and the 3.0-liter twin-turbo I6. That Ram beats Ford's top ratings for the 2.7-liter (1,715 lb) and the hybrid (1,740 lb).

It depends on the drive. In 2WD, the Ram's 3.6-liter V6 eTorque, a mild hybrid, has the best combined EPA rating in this comparison: 20 mpg city, 25 highway and 22 combined. In 4WD, Ford's PowerBoost full hybrid leads at 22 city, 24 highway and 23 combined. The Ram V6 eTorque's 21 combined beats every other F-150 4WD rating.

Yes. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 eTorque returns for 2026 with 395 hp, 410 lb-ft and an 8-speed automatic. It's an option on every trim except the RHO and Tungsten.

The Ram. Every 2026 Ram 1500 comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, while Ford covers the F-150's powertrain for 5 years/60,000 miles. Ram's coverage applies to 2026 model-year vehicles and excludes fully electric vehicles. It's also non-transferable, so the next owner of your truck wouldn't get it.

It comes down to equipment, because prices on both trucks vary by configuration. Ask us what the Ram 1500 you have in mind costs today. Then compare that with today's price on the F-150 you'd buy.

NHTSA rates the Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5 stars overall and the Crew Cab 4 stars overall. It rates the F-150 Regular Cab, SuperCab and SuperCrew 5 stars overall. NHTSA hasn't tested the Ram 1500 RHO. Ratings can change with new tests, so look up the newest results at NHTSA.gov.

Both trucks come with driver assistance as standard. Every Ram 1500 trim gets the same list, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Lane Management and Blind-spot Monitoring with trailer coverage. Every F-150 comes with Ford's standard driver-assist suite, Co-Pilot360 2.0.

If the job needs the very top 4x4 tow or payload rating, the F-150 leads, and its SuperCrew has the higher crew-cab safety rating. If you'll keep the truck for years, the Ram's longer powertrain coverage and its standard driver aids on every trim make a strong case. For adults riding in back, the Ram Crew Cab has more rear legroom than the Quad Cab. Business buyers can ask us about Business Link.
