With Americans feeling the pinch at the pump, many automakers are expanding their offerings in the electric vehicle and hybrid segments. Jeep is no exception. A brand synonymous with rugged, high-performing off-road vehicles, Jeep is expected to release the 2025 Jeep Gladiator 4xe plug-in electric hybrid pickup truck later this year, adding to its existing hybrid models, the Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Cherokee 4xe. Here’s a preview of what to expect.

While the full details and specs haven’t been released, the Gladiator 4xe is expected to share the design language and powertrain of Jeep’s current plug-in electric hybrid models, the Wrangler 4xe and the Grand Cherokee. The powertrain of these models combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter combustion engine with twin electric motors to deliver a stunning 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The Gladiator 4xe won’t trade performance or off-roading capabilities for fuel efficiency. The plug-in electric powertrain outperforms the 3.6-liter V-6 combustion engine in Jeep’s standard Grand Cherokee, which offers 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

Towing and Payload

It remains to be seen how much the plug-in hybrid version can haul, but we can estimate based on the non-hybrid Gladiator. In most trims, the non-hybrid Gladiator can tow around 4,000 pounds, but you can opt for a Max Towing package to upgrade that to 7,000 pounds. Towing capabilities remain consistent across both hybrid and non-hybrid Wrangler versions.

Cabin and Cargo

The Gladiator 4xe has user-friendly controls, including a waterproof push-button starter, and some optional comfort features, such as a heated steering wheel and front seats. The truck has a stretched wheelbase, expanding the legroom for backseat passengers as well as removable roof panels, so you can open it up and enjoy the fresh air. The release date for the Gladiator 4xe hasn’t been announced, but it’s expected to be later in 2025.
